This has been a tremendously uplifting experience for us here at Gallowglass Security Partners LLP. What we were to discover, is that fundraising for charity, whilst immensely rewarding, is by no means a straightforward task! Given that there are many worthy charitable causes competing for the generosity of individuals and Companies, for sponsorship and donations.

As a result of our efforts at Tough Mudder London South on 25th  October, we were delighted to be able to have raised £1,110 for the magnificent charity Rugby for Heroes. Their website is if you would like to find out more about them and what they do.

In essence, and to quote from their website: “Rugby for Heroes works with the rugby community to raise funds and awareness for military personnel who are making the transition to civilian life. We are committed to providing financial and personal support, to help individuals overcome the many challenges that this transition presents. Quite simply we are passionate about providing servicemen and women a level of support they deserve.”

Given that there are many at Gallowglass who have served in the British military; and have played rugby (at all levels) and enjoy the wonderful sport of rugby union, it was a clear logical choice for us to support this worthy cause.

So, first and foremost, we would like to extend our thanks for the kindness and generosity of all those who dug deep and supported our intrepid guys in their endeavours.

Also, much praise is due to Dave, Piers and George for their selfless and dedicated approach to training in preparation for Tough Mudder; and their determination and good humour in overcoming all the challenges they faced on race day. Whilst we are reluctant to single out any of the guys, a special mention must go to Dave Jukes.

Dave himself is a combat veteran, who has lived through the full horror of war. He knows at first hand the difficulties that veterans face when adjusting back to civilian life, and is very candid and open about how he has been affected.

In the course of this year he has undertaken numerous endurance events for his own chosen charities, notably the Autistic Society; and we are grateful to Dave for the time and effort that is given in support of our chosen charity, Rugby for Heroes. It has to be said, that for a man approaching fifty, that his fitness levels would shame many a twenty something!

So what next? Without wanting to sound too pious, we have always believed that we owe an obligation to those in society who are less fortunate than ourselves. We do try and support as many charities as we can; be it through direct donations, the provision of either free or heavily discounted event security, and in this instance a one off dedicated campaign for a chosen charity.

For us, this has been a worthwhile and exciting experience, and one that we intend to repeat in 2015. Endurance and endeavour will be a pivotal feature for our next fundraising effort. Hopefully, we will be able to engage more personnel at Gallowglass Security Partners LLP in competing. Also, we have taken on board the comments of Dave, Piers and George. They were of the unanimous opinion, that Tough Mudder was terrific fun, but not quite tough enough!

The gauntlet has been thrown down for 2015, and we will up the ante!
